Types Of Ownerships-how can we help

If you are interested in purchasing a racehorse please contact us for any advice or help with the process. Here at Richard Hughes Racing Ltd we will use our experience to guide you through the most suitable ownership registeration, banking and vat registrations. You can simply register online following this link https://www.britishhorseracing.com/regulation/ownership/become-a-racehorse-owner/ For more information on ownership, banking and vat registration follow the link for a useful guide https://www.weatherbys.co.uk/Weatherbys/media/PDFs/New-Owner-Guide.pdf

Sole Ownership

You will get the opportunity to name your horse and choose the colours it runs in. You will be responsible for all costs of purchase and training, but all prize money will be yours. You will regsiter as a sole owner with Weatherbys and have either a direct debit account with the BHA or a Weatherbys bank account to manage you racing charges. You canregister to revlaim vat if you have more than 50% of each individual horse.

Racing Partnership

For two or more people registered owners that wish to own a horse together. it allows the owners to share the responsibilites of racehorse owners. racing charges can be split to the individual partners or as a whole to a Weatherbys partnership account. owners with more than 50% can claim their vat back individually, less than 50% and they will have to form a partnership vat registration and bank account to recalim vat.

Syndicates

Syndicates are for a group of people coming together to own a horse. It costs more to register than a Racing Partnership but the beneft is that members to not have to be registered sole owners with Weatherbys. The ownership is managed and set up by a syndicator who is responsible for the syndicate. The Syndicate can register for to reclaim vat if it has more than 50% of a horse, often syndicates are not registered to re claim vat.

Company Ownership

For people or organisations wishing to own a horse under tha name of a company or business.

Racing Club

For a group of people coming together to experience the thrill of racehorse ownership. The Club mananger will be responsible for the racing club, but unlike a syndicate members of the racing club do not own the racehorses. Instead members are likely to pay a subscription in order to enjoy some of the benefits of racehorse owners. Vat registration is unlikely.
